Malah, Guan Eng dalam nada kurang senang mempertikai tindakan CAP membandingkan projek itu dengan kemalangan yang pernah berlaku ketika pembinaan terowong sama di luar negara.
"Adakah hanya kerana pernah berlaku kemalangan ketika pembinaan terowong di luar negara kita tidak boleh laksanakan projek itu di sini?
"Jika begitu, jalan raya pun tidak patut dibina kerana ada juga berlaku kemalangan. Bagi saya ini tidak wajar," katanya dalam sidang akhbar selepas melancarkan Pameran Kad Prestasi Hijau Pulau Pinang di sini hari ini.
Guan Eng mengulas desakan CAP semalam yang mahu kerajaan negeri membatalkan projek berkenaan kerana risau bahagian pulau menjadi kawasan tidak sihat didiami, selain pelbagai implikasi lain terhadap alam sekitar.
Mengulas lanjut, Guan Eng yang juga Setiausaha Agung DAP berkata, beliau kesal dengan kritikan Presiden CAP, S.M. Mohamed Idris terhadap programnya menerusi media tetapi tidak menghadiri sesi dialog berkenaan isu tersebut yang dianjurkan oleh kerajaan negeri.
Sementara itu, ditanya hasrat CAP yang bersedia mengetuai rakyat negeri ini mengadakan bantahan besar-besaran berhubung isu itu seperti yang pernah dilakukan ketika membantah projek Barisan Nasional (BN) di Bukit Bendera pada 1990-an, Guan Eng berkata:
"Itu hak beliau untuk membantah kerana ini adalah negara demokrasi. Walau bagaimanapun, pintu perbincangan antara CAP dengan kerajaan negeri masih terbuka.
"Projek yang CAP bantah dahulu tidak sama dengan projek terowong. Projek itu hanya memberi keuntungan kepada individu tertentu sedangkan projek ini untuk rakyat."
